Dangers of Phosphoric Acid in Soft Drinks

I’ve mentioned it before, I almost never drink fizzy soft drinks. This is mostly because the average product is not only loaded with sugar, but it also contains many harmful acids and chemicals. One of these acids is phosphoric acid – well known for having severe negative effects on the body such as osteoporosis, kidney disease and tooth decay.

Fortunately not all soft drinks are equal. Just before Christmas I was kindly introduced to Bionade, an organic brewed flavoured lemonade. A very special feature of Bionade is its unique way of handling the heart of their ingredients, the so-called gluconic acid (which is a good acid as supposed to phosphoric acid). The reason the fermentation does not result in alcohol is due to an enzyme called glucose oxydase. It transfers part of the sugar into a mild and organic acid. This special production method makes Bionade unique, while regular soft drinks are mostly just water, cane sugar, citric/phosphoric acid and artificial flavours mixed together.

Why I like Bionade
♥ Brewed like beer, but non-alcoholic
  Less than 4% sugar
♥ No phosphoric acid
No colourants, no preservatives, no artificial flavours
♥ 100% organic raw materials
♥ Gluten free. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
