The days are getting warmer and the picnic season is kicking off! To celebrate, I thought I would share my favourite French picnic food recipe with my lovely readers!!
Tartelettes a la moutarde de Dijon
Ingredients
- 1 unsweetened pastry roll (puff pastry type)
- 1/2 cup Maille Dijon mustard
- 3 large ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup of grated Swiss cheese
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons herbes de Provence
1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees C. Fit the pie crust into individual pie dish. With a fork, poke holes into the bottom of the crust.
2. Spread the mustard over the bottom of the pie crust in an even layer.
3. Arrange slices of tomato, overlapping in a spiral from the edge to the center
4. Drizzle olive oil over the tomatoes, and sprinkle the tart with the herbes de Provence.
5. Cover with the Swiss cheese in a layer
6. Bake in the preheated oven until the crust has browned, the cheese has melted, and the tomatoes are curled at the edges, about 20 minutes. You can serve warm or cold.
Voila, c'est pret!

ReplyDeleteSalmon Sandwiches have always been special to me as a picnic food.
ReplyDeleteWhen i was a child we would head off for our two week yearly holiday and we would be woken bright and early in the morning before sun up. Grandma would be busy making sandwiches which we would eat at the half way point of our trip and there was always salmon sandwiches which i loved.

Love to make some pan-fried dumplings and sushi rolls for picnics, its healthy, fresh and easy to eat.
ReplyDeleteI love Martha Stewart's Bacon, Egg and Toast cups! Not that I'm trying to be Martha Stewart...! You lightly butter slices of bread, press out rounds with a cookie cutter and press 2 rounds each into the bottoms of a Muffin tin. Fry slices of bacon and place a slice on top of each. Fry eggs and place a fried egg in each cup. Season with salt and pepper and cook in a moderate oven until set, approx 20-25 mins. To add colour(and a touch of veg for the kids!)I add sauteed spinach and sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top. A quick, simple recipe that looks great and the kids LOVE them! For an alternative, you can use a savoury muffin mix, with the same ingredients and set the egg in the middle! Looks great when sliced!

ReplyDeleteFB Liker: Strawberries are the perfect picnic food - after lunch, just when everything has had just enough time to settle, the fresh strawberries give everyone a pick me up that isn't too heavy. Even the bubba's in the group can eat them as they are the perfect size for little hands
