New Year's Resolution: lose weight (Damn holiday ice creams!)

I am back from a wonderful holiday in Western Australia (Perth, Pinnacle desert, Monkey Mia, Coral Bay, Ningaloo Reef). I also did a couple of long and rather difficult walks in Kalbarry National Park in a 45+ degrees heat. The landscape was simply amazing.

I brought back from my holiday a lovely tan, but also an extra 2 kilos L
I indulged with daily ice cream (shame on me), a few drinks and the food served during the tour was far from what I’d call healthy (no fish, white bread, oily meat, no fruits or veggies).

Luckily it’s this time of the year again
where I can make a new list of New Year’s resolutions!

Definition
A New Year's resolution is a commitment that a person makes to one or more lasting personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit. This goal must be reached by the next New Year.
Keep in mind that this is a goal, not a wish and should be something that you as a person could strive for.

Top Resolution
The top New Year's resolution every year is to lose weight and get into shape.
Unfortunately, it has been estimated that fewer than 20% of us keep our New Year's resolutions.

Tips to achieve your NY resolutions

   1. Be specific about your goal.
Saying that you want to lose weight is way too general. You should set specific goals, ie:
   - I want to lose 3 Kilos
   - I want to exercise four times a week

   2. Set a realistic goal.
Make sure you set something achievable and sustainable.

   3. Establish a plan to reach your goal, ie:
- I will reduce my alcohol intake
- I will go to Zumba classes three times a week

   4. Set a time frame to reach your goal, ie:
- I would like to lose 2 kilos by the end of February

Make this a truly happy New Year for you by following the tips above and become a happier, healthier you in 2012.

  1. I must admit this is certainly one of my New Year's resolutions, as I've been using the excuse of energy needed for breastfeeding to sneak in a few extra treats. Time to set some realistic goals!

  2. Now that I'm post 40 I actually have to force myself to eat, as I've lost my appetite, so it's easy to eat healthily. But still I don't lose weight. I do have to add in exercise and a lot of it. My problem is menopause and also arthritis which makes after exercise so painful. But I stick with it and hope to find a middle ground that I hope will help without causing too much pain without overheating myself!

  3. Some excellent advice there! Without a plan in place one is doomed to fail - this is why most people's resolutions don't work!

  4. I am so not good at new years resolutions - never have I kept one! Instead I wrote a bucket list that I want to cross off for 2012!!

Great hints about setting a goal that is easy to reach :)

    Cheers

  5. Hope you enjoyed WA! And I would have thought you would have walked and sweated off the ice cream?!

I've actually lost 4 kilos since December - even with Christmas - so I'm happy as long as it doesn't come back on! I hope to lose another 2, then I'll be even happier!
