Diet-Friendly Alcohol Choices

To follow up on my last post  related to alcohol calorie content (and while we now know that it is preferable not to consume alcohol when on a diet) below are some options...just in case!

What are the alcoholic beverages with the fewest calories?

WHISKY (single shot, or with calorie-free mixers)
Calories: 55
Carbs: 0 grams
Fat: 0 grams
Protein: 0 grams - alcohol has no nutritional value

RED or WHITE WINE
Calories: 80
Carbs: 1.5 gram
Fat: 0 grams
Protein: 0 grams

CHAMPAGNE (& Sparkling wine)
Calories: 95
Carbs: 1.6 grams
Fat: 0 grams
Protein: 0.3 grams

LIGHT BEER
Calories: 110
Carbs: 4.5 grams
Fat: 0 grams
Protein: 0 grams

How Many Calories Does Alcohol Contain?

Alcoholic beverages all contain calories, and most of the calories come from the alcohol.
Pure alcohol contains about 7 calories per gram, which makes it nearly twice as fattening as carbohydrates or protein (both contain about 4 calories per gram) and only just under the caloric value for fat (9 calories per gram).

Is Alcohol a carbohydrate?

NO.

Hard liquor is distilled and thus contains no carbohydrates. However, when grapes are made into wine, most of the fruit sugars (carbs) convert to alcohol, but a few carbs remain.

Drink in moderation an increase your exercise routine with Zumba, go for a run or burn calories simply by doing housework!
