As a typical French girl, I love my wine and champagne! But I think this year, I'll have to watch out for the hidden alcohol calories :(
I found an interesting survey conducted by the UK Department of Health, explaining that many people are unaware of the calorie content of alcohol.
The survey also revealed the average wine drinker consumed 2,000 calories each month.
What do I need to know?
While on a diet, alcohol is NOT recommended because it's:
- high in calories
- breaks down vitamins
- has no nutritional value
- a heavy drinking session is also often followed by an unhealthy meal
When you consume Alcohol, it is the first fuel to burn. While that's going on, your body will not burn fat. This does not stop weight loss, but it will postpones it until the alcohol has been used up.
What to do then?
An occasional small amount of wine or other alcoholic beverage may be tolerated but keep in mind the excess calories will slow your rate of weight loss.
That means that you'll have to compensate
